Gearheart Challenge: Literati

by on May.06, 2009, under News

And now for this week’s challenge:

Everyone listening right now probably reads some fantasy and sci-fi, but is that your favorite genre of lit? When you’re feeling like you need a pick-me-up, what’s your dusty tome of choice? Mack Bolan? Jane Eyre? The Necronomicon?

When you get your answer, give it to a Trojan, and make sure that he knows that the future of Greece depends upon it. Then have him run twenty-six miles and, with his dying breath, tell me what has become of the troops at Thermopylae. Then have him tell me your challenge answer by posting it here. I’ll read my favorites on the air next week.

Gearheart Challenge: Phonography

by on Apr.28, 2009, under News

And now for this week’s challenge:

I’m going to shift gears a little bit here and ask everyone what their favorite music for creative work might be. I’m a big fan of folk, but that’s because I’m a wuss! When you write, paint, decorate, photograph or anything else, what do you listen to?

When you get your answer, write it on the back of a solid-gold Double Eagle, and send that to me. Try to use washable marker. Then remember your answer and post it to this thread. I’ll read my favorites on the air next week.

Gearheart Challenge: Steampunk Fashion

by on Apr.21, 2009, under News

And now for this week’s challenge-

No doubt the Seekers of the Arcane Unknown dress for success, but sometimes, their fashion is a little basic. So, in your opinion, what is the ultimate piece of steampunk fashion? Would it be a giant brass, burbling with who-knows-what, strapped to your back? Perhaps it’s just a giant cog you roll around in.

Whatever your answer, carve it onto some stone tablets and hide them somewhere clever. Then, after our descendants dig them up thousands of years later, direct them to post your answer here. I’ll read my favorites on the air next week.

Gearheart Challenge: Odd-er Jobs?

by on Apr.13, 2009, under News

And now for this week’s challenge:

There’s no doubt that there’s something odd about Wallaby, Buskerton & Crust, but what would be an even odder assassin? An ex-Mouseketeer who throws his ears like Oddjob? A masseuse who massages you… to DEATH?

When you get your answer, whisper it in the ear of a newly-deceased corpse, draw a circle of sugar around the body and light it on fire… the sugar or the body, whichever. Then realize that you’ve committed a felony, and post your original answer to the comments section of this post. I’ll read my favorites on the air next week.

Gearheart Challenge: Fly Me to the Goon

by on Apr.06, 2009, under News

And now for this week’s challenge:

Everybody knows what being a villain is all about: the henchmen. Whether they’re faceless goons in jumpsuits running around your volcanic hideaway, or guys that are actually competent, everybody loves the goons. So what kind of goon or goons would you want? An army of clockwork minions? A cadre of ninja minions? A pile of… filet mignons?

When you get an answer, encode it into the DNA of a space-bound spider monkey and send it skittering over to the comments section of this post! I’ll read my favorites on the air next week.

Gearheart Challenge: What Cranks Your Gears?

by on Mar.29, 2009, under News

And now for this week’s challenge:

No doubt many of you are into steampunk, and understandably so, but the big question is… why? What draws you to the steampunk aesthetic? Is it the airships? The empires? The brass goggles? What is it exactly that makes it so charming?

When you get your answer, convert it into hexadecimal, then convert that into binary, then use a difference engine to filter that into spetadecimal, then convert it back to plain English and post the result here! I’ll read my favorites on the air next week.

Gearheart Challenge: Biscuitkinesis

by on Mar.09, 2009, under News

Here’s the latest Gearheart Challenge:

We’re all aware of the extreme arcane powers of the Seekers, but surely they’re not the only ones in the world.  If Isabelle controls fire, and Keegan is a telekinetic, perhaps there are some other… less useful powers out there.  So what do you think?  Ultimate Cookie Baking Magic?  Biscuitkinesis?  If you’ve got a useless power, lay it on me!  If you get them in by Saturday, I’ll read my favorites on the air!

Gearheart Challenge: The Beerheart

by on Mar.03, 2009, under News

So here’s another challenge to tickle your brain:

Let’s say that you just got done working a hard day or air piracy, looting the sky armadas of the world for their wonderous treasure.  With what do you kick back?  A brew?  A tonic?  Some sort of brewing-science-gone-mad?!

Get me your answers by Saturday, and they just might be read on the air!

Gearheart Challenge: Pulp Heroes Shot to a Pulp

by on Feb.24, 2009, under News

So if you were listening to The Gearheart Episode 01, you may have noticed one of the characters was shot!  The book is very much inspired by pulp, so that got me wondering:

What is the most hard-boiled, pulpy way that a character could fix a gunshot wound?

Would it be a shot of whiskey and a pile of hot cigar ash?  Maybe he would rub it full of concrete dust from the concrete slippers he just escaped from!  Use your imagination.

Drop a comment below, and let me know what you think!  If your comments are in by Saturday, you might just get mentioned in the podcast!
