Did you know I sold a book?

by on Feb.14, 2015, under News

Some of you may remember the post-script at the end of Maiden Flight of the Avenger. In it, I said I was getting out of podcasting to follow my dreams of selling a novel.

Last week, that dream came true.

Featuring Pullman-esque world building and set in a future Alabama city known as ‘The Hole,’ Every Mountain Made Low tells the story of Loxley, a young autistic woman whose family have the ability to see the restless dead. But for Loxley, the spirits of the deceased can see her back; they’re drawn to her like a bright fire, and their lightest touch leaves her with painful wounds. She avoids them as best she can, but she can’t say no to the spectre of Nora, her only friend, who was alive just hours ago. Swearing to take blood for blood and find her friend’s killer, she finds herself drawn into a conspiracy that will see her hunted down by the brutal enforcer of the corporate interests who reign over the hellish city.

I hope you’ll join me in following along through the publication process on my new site, www.alexrwhite.com. And I know I’ve tested your patience for the past three years, but I hope you’ll indulge me for a little longer. If this book is successful, that’ll help The Gearheart out tremendously.

Contest: Let’s Infiltrate The Ministry!

by on May.22, 2013, under News

Now is the time! The Seekers of the Arcane Unknown have stood by long enough as the equally long-named Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences began hording occult artifacts. It’s time to infiltrate their ranks and take them apart from the inside. How better to do that than from within their world, using the new RPG from Galileo Games? We need to help them get funded, so we can roll up characters, jump into their story, and take back what rightfully belongs in our Quartmaster’s vault in Circeville! Forget slash fiction. We shall write slash and burn fiction.

As your Headmaster, I’m offering you a bounty: you throw me a tweet or share my Facebook post, and you’ll be entered to win a copy of my Ministry fiction, “The Boy, the Bomb & the Witch, Who Returned.” The winner will also receive a copy of the “Last Days of the October Squadron Soundtrack.”

A New Novel for a Good Cause

by on Nov.17, 2011, under News

Festival of the Bizarre

Hello, everyone!  It has been awhile since I posted.  Things have been going well for my family–we’ve found some treatments that really work for my son, who we lovingly call, “The Professor.”  Some of you may know that he has severe autism and cannot speak.  That’s a tough thing to swallow as a parent, but with therapy, he has learned to say a few words, and just this morning, he said, “Hi,” when I woke him up.  When I gave him a hug in his bed, he said, “Night night,” and laid down. That’s progress by any definition.

Here’s the thing, though: that therapy is expensive–about $2600/month for the required 8 hours of Applied Behavioral Analysis therapy a day.  ABA, combined with naturalistic teaching strategies and discrete trial training, is the only therapy with clinical, proven results for severely autistic kids.  No insurance company in my state will cover a dime of it, and the school system’s services are terrible.  It’s not necessarily their fault, but they don’t have the resources required to get the job done.  We have tried to match what the therapists do, but we’re nowhere near the level of professionals that they are.  I need help with the therapy, though, and that’s why I’m having a fundraiser.  I don’t believe in accepting donations for nothing, so I have things to sell you!

Click the ChipIn link to the right to donate.  Depending on the level, you’ll get a download code in an e-mail within 24 hours.  All download codes will go live next week on 11/22/11.

What you get:

$5

  • You get a PDF and ePub of “Festival of the Bizarre,” my unreleased, near-future noir novel!  Here’s a synopsis: Vincent Mulwray and his band of killers were the kings of the crime world, and ghosts among assassins.  However, when his latest job hits a snag and no one gets paid, Vince’s identities become compromised.  On the run from paramilitary forces, Vince must solve a murder mystery in reverse– he was the killer, but what was the motive?  Who hired him, and what did they really want?  Will Vince hold the group together long enough to find his client, or will they turn on him like hungry dogs?

Episode 8 Delayed Due to Calamity

by on Apr.29, 2011, under Maiden Flight, News

So I am halfway done recording episode 8 of Maiden Flight. I have all of the voices and music I’ll need to complete the series. However, one of the worst storm systems in Alabama’s history swept through on Wednesday and knocked out our power plant. All three units were tripped at the nuclear plant, and the transmission lines running to it were decimated.

Sadly, the supplies to finish the rest of the episode are in my powerless studio. So for the time being, everything will have to wait. I apologize for the delay.

The Show is Late Again?

by on Apr.03, 2011, under News

Why is the show late? What has he been up to? Where are the last three episodes of Maiden Flight?!

To answer your questions, I’ve been working releasing my first ever self-pubbed book. It won’t be ready for another week or two, but I’ve got a sneak peek for you! Check out the cover!

I’m in the final stages of typesetting, and any ePub advice you can offer would be excellent. For those following Renée’s recovery, you should know that we’ve had a setback or two, but we’ll be back in the saddle in no time! Thanks for your patience.

Sometimes life can get you down. I think everyone is familiar with what we’ve been going through. However, Paul Fischer was happy to give us some relief. Paul, the New Media Director at Balticon in Baltimore, Maryland, just informed us that we’re guests at the con.

I look forward to connecting with all the fans who can get there!

And who knows? Maybe by the time I’m there, I’ll have even better news…
